people leadership |
Explaining and understanding the nature of good leadership is probably easier than practicing it. Good leadership requires deep human qualities, beyond conventional notions of authority.
In the modern age good leaders are an enabling force, helping people and organizations to perform and develop, which implies that a sophisticated alignment be achieved - of people's needs, and the aims of the organization.
Napoleon felt that a good leader needed to be able to inspire people to perform. He said that a leader is a dealer in hope. This concept was also picked up by John Buchan who said that the task of leadership is not to put greatness into people but to elicit it for the greatness is there already. Dwight Eisenhower saw leadership as the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. So what does it take to be a People's Leader?
